Bill R. Carty, CEO

Mr. Carty started in the securities business in 1967 when he joined Merrill Lynch Pierce Fenner and Smith as an Account Executive in their Memphis office. Prior to joining Merrill Lynch, Mr. Carty had worked with IBM Corp as a sales rep. both in their Data Processing Division and in their Office Products Division. IBM was Mr. Carty’s first job after graduating from Mississippi State Univ. in 1964 with a BS degree in Civil Engineering. In 1971 Mr. Carty formed Carty & Company, Inc. to deal primarily in Municipal Bonds. The company’s primary customers at that time were Community Banks. While maintaining its’ emphasis on fixed income securities the company has grown in size as well as scope, servicing both institutional as well as individual clients in all aspects of investing. Mr. Carty has been the CEO of Carty & Company, Inc for those thirty-five years. As the head of the firm, Mr. Carty has been responsible for all the risk management and credit analysis that the firm has engaged in for the past thirty-five years. The securities industry is extensively regulated. Mr. Carty has been an active participant in the regulation of the industry he has learned to respect and care for. He served on the Business Conduct Committee of District 5 of the NASD twice; 1982-1984, and again 1994-1997. He has also served as a NASD Arbitrator since 1985, and has served on other committees of the NASD such as the Small Firms Advisory Board from 1998-2001.

Jennifer Carty Scola, COO. EX VP

Mrs. Scola has been with Carty & Company, Inc. for over 20 years. Mrs. Scola is Chief Operating Officer and Executive Vice President of Carty & Company, Inc. and participates in all aspects of the management of the firm. She is knowledgeable in all areas of the brokerage business, including investment banking, sales, compliance, clearing and management. Mrs. Scola oversees the firm’s investment banking department and has contributed to the firm’s municipal bond research efforts as well. Mrs. Scola is very knowledgeable in negotiated, non-rated municipal bond underwriting, having fully participated in the cultivation, due diligence and final sale of such deals for the firm. Mrs. Scola is also responsible for the hiring of the firm’s brokers. Mrs. Scola served as an elected member of the District Business Conduct Committee (DBCC) of the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) previously, National Association of Securities Dealers (NASD) and most recently served on the DBCC nominating comittee. She was a member of the Security Industry Association’s Small Firm Committee for over 10 years and also served on the SIA’s first Continuing Education Committee. Mrs. Scola is a Registered NASD Principal, holds a General Securities License, a Commodities License and is a Registered Options Principal. She holds a BBA in Finance from the University of Memphis and is a graduate of the Securities Industry School at Wharton.

William L. Carty, President

After graduating from the University of Memphis in 1993 with a degree in Business Management, William Carty joined Carty & Company, Inc. as a registered representative and began his training on the fixed income trading desk. Since that time Mr. Carty has managed a proprietary position for the firm. In 1997 Mr. Carty assumed responsibility for all proprietary trading for the firm, and managed five other traders as well as his own position. In 1998 Mr. Carty was made President of the firm, and took on the general oversight of all operations of the firm. Mr. Carty brings his expertise in credit analysis, risk management, and an overall awareness of what it takes to run a successful business enterprise.

John Hearn, Sales Manager, Ex V.P

After graduating from the University of Tennessee in 1990 with a B.S. in Finance, Mr. Hearn joined Carty & Co. as a registered representative.  In 1997 Mr. Hearn moved to the fixed income trading desk and is responsible for the day to day retail operations of the firm.  Mr. Hearn’s retail sales background as well as his trading expertise allow for Carty & Co. to better meet its customers needs. In 2008, Mr. Hearn became one of Carty & Company’s five stockholders.
